BATH NIGHT WITH TWINS
HOW TO KEEP BATH
NIGHTS SIMPLE
Bath time can be a daunting task for any parent, especially when their family has many kids. But it doesn't have to be stressful or time consuming. There are ways to make bath time simple and even enjoyable for both parents and children alike.
Creating a bath routine is key to keeping bath time stress free. Establish guidelines such as who will go first and how long everyone gets in the tub, which can help keep things on track. Additionally, try having fun activities like letting the kids play with toys or giving them bubbles to blow in the water while they’re washing up helps make baths more fun instead of an obligation. Incorporating relaxing touches like music or scented candles can help create a calming atmosphere that encourages kids (and parents) make the most out of bath time. They are only this young once!
People often wonder how in the world people with large families possibly handle bath night. Our bath night is very routine-based and usually runs pretty smoothly. The boys are in one bathroom while the girls are in the other, on an alternating schedule. After that, they all get their PJs on and cuddle up while we cut their nails and brush their hair one at a time. The kids love our tradition of watching "book shows" while we do their hair and nails! They are not shows but real children's books, read aloud and often animated. It works out really well since they are so engaged in the story and technically, we aren't skipping books. There are so many great ways to watch book shows. We watch most of ours through the Kanopy App, which you set up through your local library and stream through smart TVs/Roku/Apple TV. Kanopy is amazing, free and there are tons of choices. We sometimes watch book shows on Bookflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube or Tumblebooks. The Vooks (video books) on Kanopy are particularly great for young readers because they show the text and highlight the words as it is read. Clean, happy, calm kids and parents!
Sometimes we will change it up and stagger the boys and girls baths and the babies love to join in the fun! The splashing can get a little out of control these days and the big kids love to get the babies really into it!
RELAXATION
Baths are great for self regulation and reducing stress for kids and adults. So are the rituals after bath time like lavender lotion massages. Not only is it cleanliness and the physical body being purified, but taking a bath is also a way to have self-care, emotionally and mentally. Bring on the bubbles!
