Congratulations, You're Having Twins
The first time I found out I was having twins...
When you first find out you're having twins, it can be an incredible shock. Whether you were expecting it or not, learning that two babies are on the way is a life-altering experience. The moment itself is often deeply emotional, and babies quickly become the centerpiece of your world. This photo is so special to me, it was my first look at my first babies and it really was love at first sight!
For most women, finding out they are carrying twins comes after their routine ultrasound appointment at around 18 weeks pregnant. We found out about the first set around 15 weeks and the last set at only 6 weeks. Typically, this is when the baby's heartbeats will be heard and the doctor can determine whether there is one or more than one fetus present in the womb. It can be a joyous but overwhelming moment when parents realize they are now expecting multiples.
Discovering that you’re having twins may bring up a range of emotions: excitement, surprise and even trepidation about parenthood times two!

The first time we found out we were having twins was very memorable. The ultra-sonographer pulled her wand away, right away and asked if this was our first ultrasound.
I thought this was a little strange and hoped everything was OK. She immediately put the wand back on my belly and told us “Congratulations, you’re having twins!”
The moment she wrote the words, “it’s twins” on the photo to print, was the longest moment of my life. Everything slowed down I started shaking and the first words out of my mouth were, “We’re going to need a double stroller.” I was absolutely right about that! My husband was silent, stunned and looked very scared. I couldn’t believe out of all the people in the world I would be having twins! We have probably gone through four or five double strollers since having three sets of twins. To see our favorites, click here.

I took care of twins when I was in college for two summers. I knew more than the average person about what it meant to have young twins. It’s so hard! Staying on schedule is harder, sleep training is harder, breast feeding is harder if possible, not to mention the delivery and pregnancy discomfort! My biggest fear was having one baby naturally, the second having a problem and having a c-section, too. My biggest fear didn’t come true but I was right, the delivery was scarier than anything I’ve ever experienced. I’ll post more on the delivery later.
Finding out that we were having twins was certainly a surprise. We had no idea that two bundles of joy were on the way, and it's been an exciting journey ever since, especially having two more consecutive sets of twins! It has been amazing to watch as our family grows, from two to four to six to eight in what feels like an instant. Our lives have been enriched by bringing these babies into the world and providing them with endless love and support is the greatest gift. I’m so incredibly grateful.
